Theme-Extreme Day Camp

Date: Monday, June 10th – Friday, June 14th, 2013

Location: Camp Maha, Papillion

Arrival/Departure Times: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Grade Level: Daisy, Brownie, Junior

Are you ready to try your hand at a little bit of everything? Spend half of each day doing activities based on the theme of the day and the other half doing traditional camp activities: Monday – Animal Antics: Do you love animals? We will learn about different animals, explore their habitats, what they eat and some of their wacky behaviors. We will learn to identify some animal tracks, bird calls and much more! Tuesday – Ooey Gooey Day Camp: Explore the world of the icky, sticky, slimy and goopy! Make goop, silly putty and do facials. Explore the creatures of Girl Scout Island. This day is geared for those girls unafraid of getting dirty, wanting a little adventure and ready to try something new. Wednesday – Tropical Paradise: Aloha from Camp Maha! Enjoy a day of fun in the sun as you discover our own little tropical paradise in Papillion. Build sand castles, decorate flip flops, learn the hula dance, play games and cool off in the Maha pool. Thursday – S.W.A.P.’s Day: What is a SWAP you ask? SWAPs are Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere. The tradition of Girl Scouts exchanging keepsakes started long ago when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides first gathered for fun, song, and making new friends. SWAPs are still the perfect way for Girl Scouts to meet each other and promote friendship. Each one is a memory of a special event or Girl Scout Sister. We will make SWAPs and exchange them at the all-camp event on Friday. Friday – Pop Goes the Weasel Day: Did you know that Friday, June 14, 2013 is National Pop Goes the Weasel Day? Let’s all sing it together now! All around the Mulberry Bush, the monkey chased the weasel! Did you know that the words have changed a dozen or so times since the mid-nineteenth century? At one point it was about rice and the monkey was on the table. There was one about the chicken coop and the possum. And who knows how the mulberry bush even got involved! No one ever said you had to understand nursery rhymes to enjoy them. We will learn the history behind this classic nursery rhyme as well some other classics. Please bring a sack lunch daily.
