Amazing Rangoli Art Installation

Hi Everyone!

As many of you out there know – November is “Thanksvember” on Facebook – well – #20 I am thankful for this:

Sometimes life gives you unexpected opportunities. Never would I have imagined that through Girl Scouts I would be given the chance to host an internationally renowned artist, for a Girl Scouting event. Little did I know that it would be an amazing experience for the girls and young women who were able to meet her, but for me, too!

Vijaya Mohan has been practicing her art of Rangoli for more than 30 years. She truly is an amazing human being, as anyone that has a chance to meet her (or look at her resume!) would agree. Spirit of Nebraska was given the opportunity to have Vijaya at an event this past weekend by a generous gift from the Singapore Arts Council.

Vijaya was a guest and presenter at Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska’s 2nd annual YWE3LEAD — Young Women Embrace, Empower, Educate and Lead — Conference. While at the conference, she made a remarkable 10’ by 25’ interactive Rangoli mural on the floor of University of Nebraska Omaha’s Mammel Hall, where it will be on display through the middle of  December, if you want to see it LIVE!

Check this out!

She began the piece on Friday afternoon and by Saturday morning it was time to have the Girl Scouts at the conference join in the fun! I am showing one of the photos of the piece – but the actual piece will be up through December if you would like to see it for yourself.

What an incredible experience it was to see all the girls having such a sense of pride while interacting with Vijaya – there was lots of laughter and a light-heartedness in the air that day as the girls worked to complete their masterpiece. There was a commonality and a sense of friendship and teamwork, exactly the type of lessons that Girl Scouting promotes through their leadership experiences.

Vijaya was such a gracious guest – we were happy to make her a part of our Girl Scout community here in Nebraska and can’t wait to have her again – if we are ever given the opportunity!

Were you at YWELEAD? What did you think? Comment below!

Not at YWELEAD but think this is an amazing opportunity for our Girl Scouts in Nebraska?  Comment below!

We want to hear from all our readers out there in Girl Scout land!
