YWe3Lead Hosts Rangoli Artist
Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska will host the YWe3Lead, young women’s leadership conference in a few weeks, among the speakers and guests will be Vijaya Mohan, a Rangoli artist. We are fascinated by this art form and await Vijaya visit with much anticipation.
Vijaya Mohan began learning Rangoli – the Indian art of creating decorative designs on the floors of living rooms and courtyards during Hindu festivals –when she was just five years old. As a girl, Vijaya would watch in awe as her mother created spectacular Rangoli designs. Later, she became so fascinated she began creating Rangoli herself, crafting her own designs, working with new mediums and even visiting neighbors to observe their designs. Check out the amazing designs on her website.
Vijaya is still a Rangoli artist today and has been recognized worldwide for her skill. She is even a Guinness World Record holder for single-handedly creating a Rangoli design 52’ X 53’ (2756 sq. feet) in just seven hours!
On November 17, Vijaya will be joining Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska among many special guests at YWe3Lead! YWe3Lead is a premier young women’s leadership conference, where girls educate, empower, embrace and LEAD. It gives girls in grades 9-12 an amazing opportunity to hear from successful women in many different fields – from art to literature to politics and more!
Join us for YWe3Lead on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Mammel Hall on the campus of The University of Nebraska Omaha. For more details and to register click here or email Erin Huerter.
