Susan-Margret Langdon, Feltmaker
Studio 305 is a fully functioning artist studio where loose fibers are formed into a variety of fashion and home accessories, using only the fibers, a little soap and water, and a lot of steady, rhythmic hand manipulation of the raw material. In many ways it is a lot like how a potter goes about shaping an object out of clay.
Feltmaking: Ancient to Modern
Learn how wool fibers from sheep and other animals have been used since ancient times for shelter and warmth by nomadic people, and how this unique process of making a textile is used today for fashion and home accessories. Participants will also experience the feltmaking process with a small hand sample using different types of wool. Older scouts can apply their knowledge and experience to several Interest Projects.
