Go Fish Girls!

Introduce your Girl Scouts to the exciting sport of fishing, a sport they’ll never outgrow, while working toward achieving the Girl Scout Health and Wellness Initiative through GirlSports.
At the completion of the two-hour fishing program each girl will go home with their very own lavender Go Fish Girls! fishing gear. We will equip the girls with everything they will need to know and with fishing gear so they can get started fishing the fun and rowdy Go Fish Girls! way.
Go Fish Girls!
Go Fish Girls! is a community collaborator program that teaches Girl Scouts how to fish! This two-hour local program will take place at a recommended fishing spot in or near the Omaha Metro area, determined by troop proximity. A Go Fish Girls! instructor will be available to accompany you during your troop’s program.
NEW FOR 2009 – If your troop resides outside of the Omaha Metro area you can now enjoy the Go Fish Girls! program as it will come to you! We have developed a fun and entertaining educational DVD which can be viewed in place of the outdoor classroom. Most everything you will need to fish will be shipped directly to the troop leader at no charge. The only thing you will need is a box of worms or a can of corn and an experienced angler to mentor you during your event. We can help you locate a local Nebraska Game & Parks Certified Youth Fishing Instructor that can assist with your Go Fish Girls! program. There are currently 360 youth instructors available across the state of Nebraska.
During the program, the Girl Scouts will be instructed on various fishing topics in an outdoor classroom setting. Topics will include water safety, fish identification, fishing gear and equipment, bait and lure options, CPR (Catch, Photo, and Release), and land & water conservation.
Following the classroom session, the girls, leaders and chaperones will go lakeside and use their newly learned skills during a hands-on Go Fish Girls! fishing workshop. The scouts will learn about casting, safety, implementing the steps necessary to catch a fish, when to excitedly yell, “Fish ON!,” and how to safely reel in and release their fish back into the water.
