National Safety Council – Greater Omaha Chapter helps to keep you and your family safe at home, safe at work, safe at play and safe in the community. Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Leaders can find support for Girl Scout programs through the National Safety Council – Greater Omaha Chapter.
Community Safety & Wellness Festival
(Formally known as Family Safety Day.) Injuries are the greatest cause of death for ages 1 to 44 and the fifth greatest cause overall. Injuries alone are phenomenal in number. We hear every day of devastating fires, and other events that cause accidental injuries.
• Learn about safety by identifying hazards in the Safety House
• Learn how to call 911 in case if an emergency.
• Learn about fire safety, lead poisoning, traffic safety and more!

Community Safety & Wellness Festival provides something for everyone in the family. Meet your police officers, firefighter and emergency medical technicians. They will all be there! Teens and parents can take the teen/parent driving challenge with our driver education instructors. Seniors can learn to prevent falling.
Map your house for emergency evacuation! Know two ways out, learn about smoke detectors and how to use a fire extinguisher!
Who: Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors and Leaders.
Recognitions: Brownie Try-It-Safety Sense. Work on your Emergency Preparedness Patch.
When: October 3, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Notes: Your troop can qualify for the Nebraska Safety Belt Honor Roll and be recognized by Nebraska’s Governor! Conduct a safety belt check of your troop members and their families as they arrive at meetings. We have the materials to help you run your troop’s safety belt educational campaign. Cyclefest
Community Bike & Trike Rodeo-Free helmet fitting and helmets to those in need as long as supplies last.
• Bike safety check ups
• Bike and trike rodeo
• Bike shops, police bike patrol and EMTs will be present to meet and discuss safety.
• Free face painting
• Free food (while supplies last or food service ends at 2:30 p.m.)
Who: Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes
When: May 16, 2010 from 12 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where: Bring your bikes and come on out to Chalco Hills Recreation Center, 8901 S. 154 Street., Omaha
Cost: Free
Notes: Leaders-Put on your own bike rodeo with the National Safety Council, Greater Omaha Chapter’s bike rodeo kits for loan. Along with safe bicycling skills educate children on the importance of always wearing a helmet. Adult or Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
Our nationally recognized certification, which meets or exceeds American Heart guidelines, is longer than most certifications. We offer a 2-year certification in CPR and 3 year certification in First Aid. Our instructors are firefighters, EMTs, safety professionals and health care providers.
Who: Adults, pediatric and health care providers.
When: We offer classes regularly weekdays, evenings and Saturdays.
Where: At our facility, 11620 M Circle, Omaha or we will come to you in the Omaha metro area.
Cost: Adult First Aid $40, Adult CPR/AED $49, Adult FA/CPR/AED $59, Pediatric First Aid $40, Pediatric CPR $45, Pediatric FA/CPR $59, Healthcare Full $57, Healthcare Refresher $40
Capacity: Maximum 20, per class.
Registration: Advance registration is required. Online registration is available at www.SafeNebraska.org in the “Safe Living” section. Confirmation of most classes will be sent out 1-2 weeks prior to class. Certificates are mailed after verification of attendance.
Refunds: We understand that your schedule may change at the last minute, preventing you from attending a program, therefore, substitutions are acceptable. If you must cancel your registration, please call us at least 48 hours prior to the event for a full refund. There will not be any refunds for “no-shows” or cancellations and reschedules with less than 48 hours notice prior to the event.
Chaperones: Children must be accompanied by an adult at all events. Follow Safety-Wise guidelines.
